25 February – Disruptions of main transport routes expected
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has advised that disruptive action is expected from All Truck Drivers Forum (ATDF) & Allied South Africa (ASA) on national and provincial roads from 26 to 27 February. The focus will be on halting truck movements and the blockading of national roads and highways in order to intensify the pressure on government to address their grievance with the use of foreign truck drivers by South African trucking companies.
The N3 and N2 are historically targeted and there may also be disruptive actions at the Durban and Richards Bay ports. SAPS have ensured the public that contingency measures have been implemented by the various security clusters. This includes continuous vehicle patrols and high visibility on our roads by law enforcement officers. Members making use of road transport for the transportation of commodities to the Port of Richards Bay are advised to proceed with caution and if possible, rather hold back road motor transport during the weekend.
