8th February – National Minimum Wage published

National Minimum Wage published

As reported previously, FSA had provided inputs to the National Minimum Wage Commission to inform the National Minimum Wage to be set for 2022. We recommend a CPI + 1, motivated by the above CPI increases we as a sector had faced for a number of years. The National Minimum Wage (NMW) was published and has been set at R23.19 which constitutes a 6.9% increase (December’s CPI plus 1%). The new NMW is a real value increase of R1.50 per hour and will be implemented in on 1 March 2022.
