Forestry career: 22 years
I am currently the District Manager for Southern KZN, responsible for overseeing the supply of timber in Southern KZN and order allocations.
Starting out at NCT a few years after school with no tertiary education to now, two qualifications through part time studies and 5th position held at NCT. Happy in my current role, no day is the same and I’m able to balance work and a young family. Would be open to other roles if the opportunity arises – within NCT of course!
WHY I LOVE WORKING IN THE FORESTRY SECTOR
Being a part of the NCT “family” and the diverse individuals you get to interact with in the forestry industry. You need forestry for so many things, most products you don’t even realise a tree is part of.
MY ADVICE TO THOSE EXPLORING A CAREER IN FORESTRY
Go for it, I stumbled into it by chance (in the pursuit of an accounting career) and so enjoy it. There are so many different fields you can go into in forestry. If you have a passion for forestry then go for it, you won’t be disappointed.
